HISTORY OF INDIAN MILITARY TRUCKS

Indian Military is fully filled by all the needs of the transport department. In this article, we will learn about the trucks used in Indian Military, year by year changes in the varieties of trucks till now.

HISTORY OF INDIAN MILITARY TRUCKS

In the early times, the Indian Military department does not have more funds to buy or make trucks for their army so, the Indian Military had supported of a truck named SHAKTIMAN VFJ 4X4, basically, this model was based on MAN 415. This is a heavy vehicle, weights around 5 tons. 

These heavy trucks were manufactured between 1959 to 1996. In the factory, they were used to be manufactured in VEHICLE FACTORY JABALPUR {VFJ}, a motor vehicle factory of the Indian Ordnance Factories Board. 

Around 74,900 units of these trucks were manufactured. This SHAKTIMAN truck was only the source of a truck or we can say the only vehicle at that time Indian Military had.
Its first unit was assembled by using CKD kits from Germany. Day by day its production was building up, the number of supplies of its components was increasing day by day. After this order of 3000 trucks was received in 1993 from the Indian Army and this order was fulfilled by 1996.

In between this, there was a 1 TON NISSAN JONGA used by Indian Army. This JONGA stand for:-

J: – Jabalpur

O: – Ordinance

N: – aNd

G: – Guncarriage

A: – Assembly

This was introduced in 1960, and NISSAN launched this 4X4 called P60 i.e. 60. This was inducted by the Indian Army in 1963-1964 with its same category vehicle NISSAN CARRIER, D4W73  1 TON. These vehicles were built by the Vehicle Factory Jabalpur.
